It is a main acarya Gaudiya Vaishnava line . He was the only disciple of Srila Goswami Lokanatha . Srila Narottama Dasa Thakura helped bring the books of the Goswamis of Vrndavana to Bengal and Orissa. In Kheturi , Bengal inaugurated the first Gaura Purnima festival after the disappearance of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu. It is very famous for its Prarthana , a composition of thirty-three songs in Bengali

Srila Narottama dasa Thakur was brahmacari , his whole life he visited all the holy places , and was the best of pure devotees . He wrote many beautiful songs about devotion , but not only was a songwriter , was a great scholar ( pandit ) and more than that , was a devotee of Sri Chaitanyadeva . When Mahaprabhu traveled to Ramakeli , on the road had to cross the Padma River . While on the banks of the river, he began to call : " Narottam , Narottam , Narottam " . The devotees could not understand the meaning at the time, but later it was revealed that part of Bengal that there would be a great devotee , and his name would be ' Narottam ' . Sriman Mahaprabhu had left saved a great treasure - Krishna - prema - in Padma Devi waters [ in the river ] to Narottam . After many years , Narottam Das Thakur appeared in the village of the area, known as Kheturi . He was a prince, the only son of King Krishnananda Datta and Queen Narayani Devi . Narottam was lit from early childhood , and one day had a dream in which Nityananda Prabhu instructed him : "Go to the River Padma and bathe there as Mahaprabhu has left for you , in the waters , His gift of Krishna prema ." Narottam immediately woke up and went to the river and entered the water. While bathing experienced the embrace of the Divine Form Mahaprabhu and Krishna - prema came into being. The was transformed and just as Mahaprabhu , began to mourn , to dance , to laugh and continuously chant the Names of Krishna , and suddenly the eight symptoms of ecstasy in love of Krishna ( asta- sattvika - bhava ) appeared on his body .

Narottam received instruction from Srila Jiva Goswami, Srila Krishna Das Kaviraj Goswami and many other Goswamis , who lived in Vrindavan . He was a great scholar and all the devotees , headed by Srila Jiva , recognized qualification, given the title of ' Thakur ' ( saint) . Partners and close companions were Syamananda Narottam Das Thakur and Srinivas . By the inspiration of Srila Jiva Goswami and other Vaisnavas , these three great devotees were sent back to Bengal to continue the preaching of Mahaprabhu.

Srila Narottama dasa Thakur fue brahmacari,todo  su vida, visitó todos los lugares santos, y fue el mejor de los devotos puros. Escribió muchas canciones hermosas acerca de la devoción, pero no solo fue un compositor de canciones; fue un gran erudito (pandit) y más que eso, fue un devoto de Sri Chaitanyadeva. Cuando Mahaprabhu viajó hasta Ramakeli, en el camino tuvo que cruzar el Río Padma. Mientras estaban en las riberas del río, Él empezó a llamar: "Narottam, Narottam, Narottam". Los devotos no pudieron entender el significado en ese entonces, pero posteriormente se reveló que de esa parte de Bengala surgiría un gran devoto, y su nombre sería 'Narottam'. Sriman Mahaprabhu había dejado guardado un gran tesoro -Krisna-prema- en las aguas de Padma Devi [en el río] para Narottam. Después de muchos años, Narottam Das Thakur apareció en la aldea de esa área, conocida como Kheturi. El era un príncipe, el hijo único del Rey Krishnananda Datta y de la Reina Narayani Devi. Narottam estuvo iluminado desde su temprana niñez, y un día tuvo un sueño en el cual Nityananda Prabhu le instruía: "Ve al Río Padma y báñate allí pues Mahaprabhu ha dejado para tí, en las aguas, Su regalo del Krishna-prema". Narottam de inmediato se despertó y fue al río y entró en el agua. Mientras se bañaba experimentó el abrazo de la Divina Forma de Mahaprabhu y el Krishna-prema entró en su ser. El quedó transformado y justo igual que Mahaprabhu, empezó a llorar, a bailar, a reír y a cantar continuamente los Nombres de Krishna, y de repente los ocho síntomas de éxtasis en amor por Krishna (asta-sattvika-bhava) aparecieron en su cuerpo.

Narottam recibió instrucción de parte de Srila Jiva Goswami, de Srila Krishna Das Kaviraj Goswami y de muchos otros Goswamis, quienes vivían en Vrindavan. El fue un gran erudito y todos los devotos, encabezados por Srila Jiva, reconocieron su cualificación, otorgándole el título de 'Thakur' (santo). Los asociados y compañeros íntimos de Narottam Thakur fueron Syamananda Das y Srinivas.
